Top 3-5 Responsibilities
I work with the other graphic designers on the Communications team, to do my favorite thing which is combine the heart and art for the purpose of loving God, loving others, and making disciples of Jesus Christ.
When and how did the Lord save you?
God saved me as a little girl out for a walk, riding in a Radio Flyer wagon. He pulled me close through a season of suffering—the severe depression of a dear family member and the rejection of family members and peers and friends. He showed me His covenant faithfulness by watching my parents live by faith and instill a love for His Word and His ways and His people. He schooled me in my need for severe mercy even when I "kept" the rules so that I could rely on His Son for salvation. For a while I gave the people around me the right to declare how valuable I was, like little sovereigns with little scepters. That had me in a dark place, tangled in thoughts of suicidal ideation. But then God showed me that His opinion matters most, and He has declared my value and His love by dying for me in order to bring me close. Now I rest in freedom and joy by taking refuge in Him, enabled to live in gratitude to Him despite the circumstances.
When did you come to TVC and what brought you here?
After we moved to the Dallas area at the end of 2015 for my husband's work, I started as a designer in February 2016.
Book/Movie/TV Show Recommendation and Why
Years ago, on a literal bus ride, Jen Wilkin made me feel a bit like a Forrest by a Jenny (from the bus scene in Forrest Gump). But that isn't why I'd recommend whatever she's writing now. It's because she and Nancy Guthrie have been some of the arrows pointing me to love God for who He really was all along in ways I couldn't have imagined. Of course God has always been this wonderful, but I hope more people grow in their love for God and others as a result of the much-needed Bible literacy they labor to make accessible.
TED Talk Subject & Why
I've joked that perhaps I should write a talk on the emotions of designers called "Kern You Feel It?"
