When and how did the Lord save you?
I grew up in a wonderful family with the church as the epicenter... faith and good activity were simply inseparable in my mind. Soon, I began to confuse doing good with my own worth... This pattern continued until the Lord sent Kristen, a brilliant and beautiful medical student, into my life to show me that true faith is not in our hands, but in the perfect work of Another... The Word came alive, as the Spirit awakened me to see His hand in the world and in my life. God opened my heart to hear the gospel, and I began to see that even the best of my work was worthless and that my salvation was proven through the perfect work of Jesus Christ. I had nothing to prove anymore.

When did you come to TVC and what brought you here?
In September of 2021, I received a phone call with a “wild idea.” The idea was about potentially moving to Texas to serve as a pastor at TVC... we came to TVC for a visit at Halloween... When we arrived, we got the normal weekend we requested... As we watched our children play, Kristen and I got a picture of what it could look like in the future... Later that morning, we experienced the “welcoming home” of The Village Church, and our hearts turned even more. We wanted a normal weekend, but something ab-normal was going on. We felt at home... We leaned into our fears, and I preached a farewell sermon on February 27 and drove to Texas the next day.

Book/Movie/TV Show Recommendation and Why
Once an Eagle is a book I like to recommend. At over 1,000 pages, it's quite a commitment. But it's my favorite book (outside of the Bible!)... The author paints a clear picture of two styles of leadership and reminds me that the best kind of leadership is the wholehearted and integrous kind that leads with others. Give me more Sam Damons!

TED Talk Subject & Why

Childhood Dream Job
Shortstop of the Baltimore Orioles

Fictional Character Friend & Why
I'd love to be friends with Indiana Jones. Talk about a great dinner conversation! Indy isn't satisfied with a mere love for history; he has to live it. He’s a man of action who directly engages in his passion for history. I love that about him. Plus, his leather jacket is pretty awesome, too.

Favorite Hobby
Coaching youth sports is my absolute favorite hobby. I also love to run, bike, and hunt. Basically, I like anything outside.
